Lady Mavs Take Down Roadrunners in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas– The UT Arlington women's tennis team (7-2) defeated UT San Antonio 6-1 at the UTSA Tennis Center on Sunday. This marks their first win on the road for the spring season.
 
The Mavericks gained the early 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point over the Roadrunners. Liz Chileno and Sarina Reinertsen came out strong on Court 2, earning a decisive 6-1 victory over Stanislava Bobrovnikova and Adeliya Mukhutdinova. This improved the pair's doubles record to 6-2 for the season, with the most wins on the team.
 
Tara Gorinsek and Ana Paula Jimenez fell on Court 1 to Magda Tuells and Aleksandra Zlatarova 6-1. They still have the second-most wins on the team with a 5-3 record.
 
Bruna Casasampere and Francisca Vergara retaliated on Court 3 with a 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point for the Mavs. The team defeated Fatima Gutierrez and Alexandra Weir, moving to 3-1 on the season.
 
The Mavericks carried the momentum from doubles  into singles play, dropping only one point to the Roadrunners.
 
Chileno played a tough match on Court 1, falling to Zlatarova 6-3, 6-1. She is still tied for most wins on the team with a  6-1 record.
 
Gorinsek put the Mavs back in the win column with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Weir on Court 2. Reinertsen also took out her opponent in straight sets, defeating Gutierrez 6-4, 6-3 on Court 3.
 
Casasampere moved to 5-2 on the season with a win on Court 4. She defeated Mukhutdinova 6-2, 6-4.
 
Jimenez continued the team's success on Court 5 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Tuells. This is her sixth consecutive win, remaining undefeated for the season between Courts 4 and 5.
 
Vergara ended her match with a win after coming back to force the deciding set tiebreaker. After dropping the first set to Eva Beyebach 6-3, she came back to take the second 6-4. At one set each, Vergara took control in the tiebreaker, pulling out the decisive 10-5 victory.
 
The Mavericks will be back in action against SMU on March 12 at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas. Their next home match will be on March 15 at 2 p.m. to face Drake.
