COLLEGE STATION, Texas– The UT Arlington men's tennis team (7-5) lost 4-0 to No. 49 ranked Texas A&M on Monday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Mavericks battled hard in doubles action, but fell short to the Aggies.
Santiago Giamichelle and
Dante Teramo were the first team to fall, losing 6-1 to Trey Hilderbrand and Noah Schachter on Court 1.
The Mavs retaliated with a win on Court 2 after
Anton Shepp and
Solano Caffarena took the next match 6-2. They defeated Giulio Perego and Kenner Taylor 6-2 to tie the doubles score. The two maintain their status as most doubles wins on the team at 6-2.
The early lead came down to Court 3, where
Lachlan Robertson and
Joan Torres Espinosa faced Luke Casper and Matthis Ross. The Mavs could not overcome the Aggies, with Casper and Ross clinching the doubles point at 6-3.
The Mavericks struggled to come back in singles play, dropping the next three points to the Aggies.
Daichi Akiyoshi suffered the first loss on Court 6 to Taylor. He fell 6-2, 6-0 in his second singles match of the season.
Court 2 finished next, with Espinosa dropping his fourth match of the season. No. 57 ranked Raphael Perot earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Espinosa. Espinosa still holds the second most wins on the team with a 7-4 record.
Rahul Dhokia defeated
Ricardo Alban in the final match of the evening. The 6-3, 6-3 win secured the 4-0 sweep for the Aggies and ended the match.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Thursday at 2 p.m. to face Furman at the UTA Tennis Center.
