Updated: Fischer finished in a tie for 10th place at -13 (66-69-69-67). The season-best finish propelled him 19 spots on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List to #40; the Top 30 at the end of the season receive a PGA TOUR card.
ARLINGTON – The Korn Ferry Tour's third edition of the Veritex Bank Championship at Texas Rangers Golf Club this week features a loaded field, and UT Arlington's own Zack Fischer is part of it as he continues his pursuit of a PGA TOUR card.
Â
A 2011 UTA alum, Fischer will begin his tournament at 8:18 a.m. off the 1st tee on Thursday before a 2nd-round 1:38 p.m. tee time off the 10th hole on Thursday.
Â
Fischer – who holds the lowest career scoring average in UTA men's golf program history at 73.10 – enters play this week ranked No. 59 on the Korn Ferry Tour Season Points List (similar points system to the PGA TOUR's FedExCup Point Standings).
Â
The Top 30 finishers at the end of the year automatically earn a PGA TOUR card, and a high finish by Fischer this week will go a long way in propelling the Texarkana, Texas, native toward that goal.
Â
This will mark the third-straight Veritex Bank Championship appearance for Fischer. Last year, he made the cut on the number at -5 and then used a blistering final-round 64 to post a -14 and a T-39. In 2021, Fischer Monday Qualified his way into the field, but did not make the cut despite a pair of 2-under 69s.
Â
This will be the 33-year-old Fischer's 123rd career start on the Korn Ferry Tour (formerly the Web.com Tour) and seventh this year. He has a pair of top-25 finishes this season, including a best of T-12 at The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic in January. Fischer enters this week with a scoring average of exactly 71 over 16 rounds this year, and he boasts the 3rd-best 3rd-round scoring average on the Korn Ferry Tour (66.5).
Â
Fischer has played in eight PGA TOUR events with a career-best finish of T-14 at the 2019 Valero Texas Open. His last event on TOUR came at the Houston Open in November, making the cut and posting a pair of 69s.
Â
The three-time Southland Conference all-league member and 2009 SLC Individual Co-Medalist will be competing this week against a strong field. Among the 156 players, 46 are Korn Ferry Tour winners with 68 total wins, both season highs, including all six winners from this season already.
Â
Additionally, the field features seven past PGA TOUR winners with 17 combined victories, led by four each from Camilo Villegas and Chad Campbell.
Â
Fischer completed 129 rounds at UTA from 2007-11. He still holds the program record for career rounds at – or below – par with 54, and his 110 counting scores remain the 5th-most all-time. He also still resides 5th on the program list with 363 career birdies, and is tied for 7th with 10 career eagles.
