Mavericks Overcome Doubles Loss to Defeat Mean Green

DENTON, Texas– The UT Arlington women's tennis team (15-3, 6-1 WAC) defeated North Texas 4-1 in their last non-conference match, coming back after losing the doubles point at the Waranch Tennis Complex on Wednesday.
 
The Mean Green came out strong by taking the doubles point for the 1-0 lead in a close tiebreaker on Court 3.
 
Ana Paula Jimenez and Tara Gorinsek were the first team to fall on Court 1. In a close match with Jasmine Adams and Matilde Morais, the pair fell by one break of serve 6-4 to give UNT the lead.
 
Courts 2 and 3 were tightly contested, with both coming down to tiebreakers. UNT's Olivia Halvorsen and Kexuan Zhou won a tight battle on Court 3 over Bruna Casasampere and Francisca Vergara, who fell by only two points, 7-6(6) to give the Mean Green the early advantage.
 
The Mavericks retaliated in singles action, taking the next four courts in order to complete the comeback and secure the win.
 
Sarina Reinertsen was the first to finish, earning a dominant win over Zhou and only dropping one game. She took the first set 6-0, then followed up with a 6-1 win in the second. This moved her to 12-3 on the season as she remains 6-1 in WAC play.
 
Liz Chileno followed, earning her tenth win of the season over Adams on Court 1 in straight sets. Chileno took the first set 6-4 and the second 6-3 to move to 10-6 on the season. This victory gave the Mavericks the lead to go up 2-1.
 
Jimenez earned her eighth consecutive win to help the Mavs go up 3-1. In her seventh consecutive win in straight sets, she took out Olivia Malm on Court 5. After taking the first set 6-2, the second set followed in a similar manner, winning 6-3 to move to 14-1 on the season. She also remains undefeated in WAC play with a 7-0 record.
 
Vergara clinched the match on Court 6, earning another straight set win for the Mavericks over Marina Adati. In a close first set, Vergara secured the win 7-5. Vergara then proceeded to finish off the second set 6-2 to secure the win. She improved her winning streak to seven as she moved to 14-2 on the season and remains 6-1 in WAC play.
 
Gorinsek did not finish her match on Court 2, as she was down 6-2, 1-6, 3-1 to Morais. Casasampere's match on Court 4 was also unfinished, as she was up 7-5, 3-3 to Nformi Stadfany.
 
The Mavericks will be back at the UTA Tennis Center on Friday to face conference opponent Sam Houston State at 11 a.m.
