ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team attempted a comeback win in the bottom of the seventh inning, but ultimately fell short, dropping the final game to Tarleton 4-3 Sunday from Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks move on to an overall record of 19-27 and 9-12 in conference play.

UTA produced nine hits in Sunday's final game of the series as
Meagan Smith (2-3, 2 RBI) and
Alaina Hampton (2-3) paced the Mavericks' offense with two hits each.
Marley Neises (1-3),
Morgan Westbrook (1-3),
Jacquelyn Adams (1-1),
Lindsey Franklin (1-4) and
Kimber Cortemelia (1-2) all contributed to UTA's hit total.
Sophomore
Jessica Adams earned the start in the circle for the Mavs as she tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs off just three hits. Junior
Gracie Bumpurs finished the game, facing 11 Texans.
The Mavericks' offense battled back in the bottom of the seventh, but ultimately fell short.
PLAY BY PLAY: vs Tarleton (L, 4-3)
- The Texans scored first in the top of the third off a two-run home run from the bat of Austin Germain.
- UTA responded quickly with two runs courtesy of an RBI-single through the right side from Smith, which tied things up 2-2.
- Tarleton regained the lead in the fifth inning with its second two-run home run of the game.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Sophie Wideman was responsible for the Mavericks' third run of the game with a fielder's choice followed by a Tarleton throwing error that allowed for Adams, Ja. to score.
- The Mavs were unable to plate anything else across, falling to the Texans 4-3.
ON DECK
UTA will bring its regular season to a close next weekend with its series against Sam Houston. The Mavs will welcome the Bearkats to Allan Saxe Field for a single game on Friday, May 5 followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, May 6.
