Lady Mavs cap recruiting class in big way, add SFA's Brittingham

ARLINGTON, Texas --- Avery Brittingham, a 6-1 forward who was a First Team All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) selection for Stephen F. Austin last year, has decided to join the UT Arlington women's basketball program for her final two seasons of eligibility.
 
Brittingham, a local product who graduated from Crowley High School in Fort Worth, was a driving force for the Ladyjacks over the past three seasons, starting 47 of 78 games played while producing 34 games with double-digit points, 18 with double-digit rebounds and 10 double-doubles. Over that time, she helped her team win four combined conference regular season and tournament championships.
 
This past season, Brittingham guided SFA to a 27-7 record and a second-round appearance in the WNIT while averaging 10.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.6 steals per contest while starting 33 games and shooting 126-of-238 (.529) from the field. She had 17 games with double-figure scoring, highlighted by a career-high 21-point outburst against Sam Houston.
 
On the glass, Brittingham tallied 11 games with double-digit rebounds, which led to seven double-doubles, including a 14-point, career-high 20-rebound performance against California Baptist and a 16-point, 10-rebound outing against UTA. On Nov. 13, she registered 16 points, 15 rebounds, 11 assists, four steals and three blocks against Texas Southern.

As a sophomore in 2021-22, Brittingham averaged 8.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals while shooting 51 percent from the field and leading SFA to a 28-5 record overall along with WAC regular season and tournament championships. Limited to 18 games (14 starts), she produced eight instances of double-digit scoring, including a season-best 18 against Ball State. She secured two games with double-digit rebounds, including 13 points and 10 rebounds against ULM in her lone double-double of the season. In the season finale, she had nine points and 10 rebounds in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against No. 5 North Carolina.
   
In 2020-21, Brittingham averaged 8.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.9 steals as a freshman at SFA, helping lead a team that finished 24-3 overall and 14-0 in the Southland Conference en route to regular season and tournament championships. In 27 games, she produced nine games with at least 10 points and five with at least 10 rebounds, including 12 boards in her first collegiate game against Arizona State. She also registered a pair of double-doubles, including 16 points and 14 rebounds against Lamar, as well as game-highs in points (16) and rebounds (13) against No. 5 Georgia Tech in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, where she nearly made the game-tying layup as time expired, but it came just after the buzzer. Overall, she shot a career-best 56.4 percent from the field.
 
A force on the glass who has corralled 38 percent of her career rebounds on the offensive end, Brittingham totaled 734 points, 523 rebounds, 159 assists, 123 steals and 43 blocks over 78 games at SFA. Over that span, she was 271-of-505 (.537) from the field while averaging 9.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, two assists and 1.6 steals per game.
 
Brittingham's brother, Hayden, played for the UT Arlington men's basketball team in 2021-22 after winning a JUCO national championship at Coffeyville J.C.
 
Brittingham joins an outstanding group of newcomers on next year's team including Taliyah Clark (Seattle), Kali Haizlip (College of Southern Idaho), Gia Adams (Tennessee State), Adéla Válková (UTEP), DJ McFarlane (Tennessee Tech), Ari Lee (Moberly Area Community College), Mango Mutanda (Jacksonville State), Hannah Humphrey (Blinn College), Miraya Perkins (Dallas Boswell High School) and Aubrey Reid (Stephen. F. Austin High School).
