ARLINGTON, Texas ---- Gia Adams, an exciting 5-7Â guard who spent the past two seasons at Tennessee State, will join the UT Arlington women's basketball program for the 2023-24 campaign.

The 2021-22 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Freshman of the Year averaged 13.4 points over 57 career games the past two seasons while also shooting .772 from the foul line. This past season, she scored in double-figures 20 times, including 13 of the past 14 and each of the last 10 games. Among those, she scored at least 20 five times, highlighted by a season-high 27 points against Kansas City and Lindenwood.

"Gia brings experience and scoring to the guard position for us," UT Arlington head coach
Shereka Wright said. "Her quickness and length will be very valuable for us on both ends of the floor. She had a lot of success in the OVC, and I look forward to her game translating well to the WAC."

The 2022-23 Preseason All-OVC selection also finished with at least three assists 15 times this year, including a season-high seven against UT Martin, and she totaled a season-best five steals against Morehead State en route to 10 games with multiple steals. Overall, she shot 43-of-132 (.326) from 3-point range.

As a rookie, Adams was named a three-time OVC Freshman of the Week, registering 19 games with 10-plus points, as well as six with at least 20, highlighted by a career-best 33 points against SIUE on Feb. 17. In her first collegiate game, the Houston native produced a double-double with 17 points and a career-high 10 rebounds against Fisk. On Dec. 30, she a hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from just beyond half court in an overtime win over Tennessee Tech. Overall, she led the team in 3-pointers made (42) and assists (81).

A 2021 graduate of Jersey Village High School just northwest of Houston, Adams competed for Texas Flight Elite on the AAU circuit.

Adams, who is just 234 points shy of reaching 1,000 career points, joins an exciting group of newcomers on next year's team including: Adéla Válková (UTEP), DJ McFarlane (Tennessee Tech), Ari Lee (Moberly Area Community College), Mango Mutanda (Jacksonville State), Hannah Humphrey (Blinn College), Miraya Perkins (Dallas Boswell High School) and Aubrey Reid (Stephen. F. Austin High School).
