PHOENIX, Ariz. – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (9-10, 5-4 WAC) fell on the road to Grand Canyon (17-4, 9-1 WAC) by a final score of 70-35 inside GCU Arena.
UTA was led by
Gia Adams, whom was the only Lady Mavs to reach double figures in scoring with 15 points in 29 minutes of action. On her fifth shot of the game, a three pointer from the top of the key, Adams reached the 1,000-point plateau for her career. Adams also finished with five rebounds, one assist and one steal.
16 of the Lady Mavs points came from the bench, highlighted by six from
Hannah Humphrey on 3-of-5 shooting, as well as grabbing one board and swiping one pass.
Masengo Mutanda finished with four points and secured three rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.
Keiori Lee,
Alexsyah Goudeau, and
Kali Haizlip each finished with two points off the bench for UTA.
The Lady Mavs came out sluggish to start the game, shooting 19.2-percent from the floor in the first half. Despite winning the jump ball and registering the game's first bucket, the Lady Mavs only led briefly in the first quarter before the Lopes took the lead and held onto it for the remainder of the game.
The fourth quarter was a better showing for the Lady Mavs, whom shot 50-percent from the floor for the quarter.
UTA's four points in the second quarter is the lowest scoring quarter all season for the Lady Mavs. GCU also outworked the Lady Mavs in the paint, putting up 42 points in the paint compared to UTA's 18.

The Lady Mavs return home for a three-game homestand, kicking it off hosting Southern Utah on Thursday, Feb. 1. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. from inside the College Park Center.
