INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) women's awards for the competition week ending on Jan. 7 have been released and senior forward
Avery Brittingham has been named one of the five Ann Meyers Drysdale national honorees.
Brittingham helped spur the Lady Mavs to a 2-0 record for the week as they started conference play back up.
In 22 minutes against Tarleton State, Brittingham went 5-for-10 from the field for 13 points while pulling down six rebounds, dishing out three assists and finishing with three steals.
Against her old team, Stephen F. Austin, Brittingham posted the second triple-double of her career and second triple-double in program history, first since 2002. She finished with 11 points, matching a career-best 11 assists and 10 rebounds in 35 minutes of action and helped the Lady Mavs give the Lady Jacks their first conference loss of the season. She is the fifth player in WAC history to record multiple triple-doubles.
Brittingham is the third WAC player to earn the honor, and first since 2014. She joins Tyonna Outland (CSU Bakersfield, 2014) and Keila Shelton (Louisiana Tech, 2013).
Brittingham was named along with Madison Booker (Texas), Caitlin Clark (Iowa), Rickea Jackson (Tennessee) and Elizabeth Kitley (Virginia Tech).
