OREM, Utah – The UT Arlington volleyball team (20-2, 10-0 WAC) defeated the Utah Valley Wolverines (15-7, 6-4 WAC) in a wild game that saw the Mavericks earn their first reverse sweep of the season 21-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-22, 15-11 to remain undefeated in Western Athletic Conference play and their 11th straight win.
The Mavs were led by
Brianna Ford who had a team high 19 kills. Ford also had 17 digs and seven blocks on the afternoon. Her 17 digs were the second highest total for the match while her seven blocks were the third most total for the match and second on the team.
Cansu Gunaydin chipped in with 14 kills while adding 10 digs, one block and one assist.
Evyn Snook was the third and final Mav with double digit kills, finishing with 11 to go along with 11 digs, one block and one assist. Snook's .556 hitting percentage paced the Mavs and was the best percentage for the match across both teams.
Mollie Blank led the Mavs with 46 assists to go along with eight kills, eight digs and three blocks.
Paige Reagor finished with a match high 10 blocks to go along with six kills, one assist and one dig.
Samantha Glenn finished with a match high 18 digs.
The Mavs dropped a close first set that went back and forth up until the end of the set. With the score 17-15 in favor of the Wolverines, the Mavs would rattle off three straight points to go up 19-17. Utah Valley would go on to score eight out of the next 10 points, including seven straight points to take the first set 25-21.
UTA played behind the eight ball for the majority of set two, only holding a lead early in the set when it was 8-7. Utah Valley would score three straight points and would hold the lead for the remainder of the set, taking the set 25-20 to go up two sets to none.
The Mavs would awaken in set three, the Wolverines would go up 16-14 before UTA would reel off seven straight points to go up 21-16. The Mavs scored 11 of the sets last 12 points, claiming set three 25-17.
UTA stayed in the driver's seat in set four, going up 11-7 after scoring four straight and would remain in the lead for the remainder of the set, claiming set four 25-22.
The Mavs remained hot entering the fifth and final set, scoring the first six points before the Wolverines got on the board. Utah Valley would get as close as two points, making it 8-6. The Mavs would score four of the next five points to go up 12-7. UTA remained in control, taking the set 15-11 and winning the match in the reverse sweep, 3-2.
