Lady Mavs Look To Bounce Back On The Road Monday Night

COMMERCE, Texas – The UT Arlington women's basketball team continue their five-game road swing with their third stop at East Texas A&M, formally known as Texas A&M – Commerce. Tipoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. from inside The Field House in Commerce, Texas.
 
The Lady Mavs look to pick up their first road win of the season.
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 15th overall meeting between the Lady Mavs and the Lions of the newly renamed Texas A&M - Commerce, now East Texas A&M. UTA holds a strong 12-2 record against the Lions, with the Lady Mavs winning 12 straight, only dropping the first two games of the all-time series back in the 1970s. The last meeting came a little over two years ago on November 12, 2022, inside the College Park Center in which the Lady Mavs won a close one, 75-72. The first ever match between the two programs happened back in March of 1973, a 43-20 loss for the Lady Mavs.
 
SCOUTING EAST TEXAS A&M
The Lions average about 75 points while making nine three pointers a game through four games. They hold opponents to 5.5 triples and to around 68 points a contest. They average 41.5 rebounds per game while opponents average an even 42 rebounds per contest. Defensively they average around eight steals and 5.5 blocks a game. Sophomore Cora Horvath leads the charge offensively with 13.3 ppg. Jordyn Newsome averages 10.8 points and an even three rebounds per game. Former Lady Mav Hannah Humphrey is the Lions third leading scorer with 9.8 ppg from off the bench.
 
KICKIN' IT WITH KOI
Fifth year transfer Koi Love is establishing herself as one of the premier players in the Western Athletic Conference. Through four games, Love is averaging a team high 17.8 points per game, which is currently the third best mark in the WAC and 97th best mark in the nation as of 11/16. Love has put up 71 total points in the Lady Mavs four games, which is second in the conference and 45th best in the country. She has made 31 field goals in the early going, which is tops in the WAC and the 12th best mark in the NCAA. Love's 51.7 field goal percentage is the third best in the WAC.
 
Love's 11 steals are third most in the WAC and 50th in the NCAA. Her average of 2.75 steals per game is the fifth best mark in the conference and 98th nationally.
 
In just her second game in the orange and blue, Love finished with a game high 21 points to go along with one rebound, one assist and one steal in 16 minutes. Love's impressive 10-for-11 night from the floor moved her into the record books as well, putting her in a tie for 9th place with a 90.9 field goal percentage, first time since 2020 that's been done.
 
Love recorded 20 points in her Lady Mavs debut, that's the most in a debut for the Lady Mavs in over 10 years. In her first game donning the blue and orange, Love swiped a career high five steals and tied her career high with two made three pointers in 33 minutes of action.
 
THE FACILITATORS
The Lady Mavs boast the top two assists' leaders in the WAC in the early going of the season in Avery Brittingham and Nya Threatt.
 
Brittingham's 14 total assists are tied for third in the conference, while Threatt has 13 total assists which is fifth in the conference. Brittingham is fifth in the conference in assists per game with 3.5 while Threatt is averaging 3.3 a game.
 
ALL AROUND HOOPER
Avery Brittingham is showing why she's a Preseason All-WAC selection in the early portion of the season. Through four games, she has already posted a triple double, one of three that's happened throughout NCAA Division I.
 
Her 14 total assists are tied for third in the conference while her 22 total rebounds are tied for the conference lead.
 
AIN'T NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP
Sophomore Miraya Perkins is shaping up to be a formidable player off the bench in just her second season, appearing in all four games in the early going. Perkins is averaging 7.5 points and an even six rebounds and one assist in 16.8 minutes per game, all career highs for the Dallas native.
 
IF IT'S FREE, IT'S FOR ME
As a team, the Lady Mavs are one of the best teams in the conference in getting to the free throw line in the early part of the season, averaging 22.50 free throw attempts per game, which is the best mark in the WAC and 46th nationally.
 
Perkins is showing to be one of the best free throw shooters in the conference in the early part of the season. Perkins is currently shooting 83.3 percent from the charity stripe which is the third best mark in the WAC.
 
TAKING CARE OF THE ROCK
The Lady Mavs are one of the best in the conference when taking care of the basketball. They have a league low 14 turnovers per game which is the 59th best mark in the nation.
 
DEFENSIVE INTENSITY
The Lady Mavs force an even 22 turnovers a game, the third best mark in the WAC and the 59th best in the NCAA.
 
Their 11 steals per contest are tied for the third best mark in the conference and 79th in the country.
 
The Lady Mavs have the second-best turnover margin in the WAC and the 37th best in the NCAA at an even eight. Brittingham has the second-best assist to turnover in the WAC at an even two.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Mavs fell on the road to Arkansas by a final score of 93-65 on Nov. 14 inside the Bud Walton Arena.
 
Koi Love led the charge with her first double double in a Lady Mavs uniform, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She also added five assists, two blocks and two steals in a team high 31 minutes of action.
 
Avery Brittingham was the only other Lady Mav in double figures with 16 points on 7-of-13 from the floor. Brittingham also chipped in with six rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 22 minutes of play.
 
Zoe Nelson finished with nine points on 4-for-7 shooting from the field while grabbing a rebound and dishing out one assist in 22 minutes. Miraya Perkins finished with eight points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal in 18 minutes off the bench. Taliyah Clark rounded out the top scorers for the Lady Mavs, finishing with seven points and grabbing a rebound in 19 minutes of action.
 
UTA came out hot in the first quarter, winning the opening tip and recording the first two buckets of the game. There would be four lead changes and two ties for the remainder of the quarter, with the Lady Mavs going into the second up three, 21-18.
 
In the second quarter, the Lady Mavs went on a cold streak that only saw them record nine points, their lowest scoring point total in a quarter for the game. Meanwhile, Arkansas got red hot in the second, putting up 36 points in the second quarter. The Lady Mavs entered the locker room for halftime down 54-30.
 
The Lady Mavs came out the half and much like in the first quarter, hit the first three shots to start the third. UTA matched their best scoring output in a quarter for the game with 21 points yet headed into the fourth quarter still trailing the Razorbacks 75-51.
 
UTA managed to end the game on a 9-3 run while holding the Razorbacks scoreless for the last 2:23 of the game.
 
TRIPLE DOUBLE IN THE HOME OPENER
Avery Brittingham made history for the second year in a row. Brittingham finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the third triple double in program history. This is her third career triple double, second as a Lady Mav that came last season against her former team Stephen F. Austin.
 
GAME OF FIRSTS
Freshman Kendal Robinson along with redshirt-freshmen Aubrey Reid and Jamaya Perry all scored their first collegiate basket in the home opener for the Lady Mavs.
