YOUNGSVILLE, Louisiana – Behind an explosive offense, the UT Arlington softball team collected its first double-digit win Sunday with a 14-8 win over Southern from Youngsville Sports Complex.
With a pair of wins over the weekend, UTA moves on to an overall record of 2-4. Across the course of six games, the Mavs' lineup is led by
Emma Lopez (.438) followed by
Lindsey Franklin (.412),
Marley Neises (.350) and
Jessica Adams (.333).
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. Southern (W, 14-8)
UTA's offense exploded in Sunday's final game of the three-day Mardi Gras Mambo as sophomore Neises led the way with a perfect 5-5 performance at the plate – the second occasion in her young career to match the most hits in a single game program record in which she broke last season.
The Mavericks' 15 total hits were highlighted by a solo shot from the bat of Neises and two home runs from
Lindsey Franklin (3-3) which marked the first pair of home runs for the first baseman this season.
Freshman Lopez had herself a weekend, going 7-14 at the plate as the lefty finished 3-4 in the box against the Jags.
Camille Corona (2-3),
Nikki Donahue (1-4) and
Cameron Cooper (1-3) also contributed to the Mavericks' 14-8 victory.
In the circle, freshman
Abi Gutierrez earned her first win of the 2024 season as the lefty tossed the back-half of the game accumulating four innings pitched with one earned run off four hits.
ON DECK
UTA will hit the ground running, hosting its first of two home tournaments this season with the Maverick Invitational beginning Saturday, Feb. 17 through Monday, Feb. 19 from Allan Saxe Field. There, the Mavericks will face Michigan State, Kansas City, DePaul and Boise State.
