ARLINGTON – Offensively, the UT Arlington softball team couldn't quite execute as the Mavericks dropped both games Saturday against Michigan State (9-1) and Kansas City (9-4) from Allan Saxe Field.
With consecutive losses in UTA's first day of Maverick Invitational action, the program now sits on an overall record of 2-6.

The Mavericks produced just four hits in Saturday's first game as transfer
Camille Corona led the way with a two-hit performance. The fifth year now holds the second-best batting average on the season of .353 across seven games played.
Jessica Adams (1-3) and
Cameron Cooper (1-1) were responsible for UTA's other two hits with Cooper delivering the Mavs' lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
In the circle, senior
Gracie Bumpurs earned her second start as she went on to toss four innings, allowing two earned runs off four hits. Across 18 Spartans, Bumpurs tabbed three strike outs and one walk.
Freshman
Abi Gutierrez and Adams saw the mound in the later half of the game with Gutierrez allowing seven runs off six hits.
With UTA unable to answer back, Bumpurs received her first loss of the 2024 season.

Behind a nine-hit total, the Mavericks improved their offense by five hits in game two against Kansas City.
Freshman
Emma Lopez has continued to play a vital role in head coach
Kara Dill's lineup as the lefty leads the UTA lineup with a .435 batting average after logging a 3-4 performance against the Roos – which marked the third multi-hit contest of the young season.
Kaylee Cavazos collected her first home run of the season with a no-doubter to left field before knocking her second hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth with a single to right center.
Adams,
Lindsey Franklin,
Marley Neises and
Nikki Donahue all contributed with one hit apiece.
Junior Adams threw six innings for the Mavs and faced 33 batters – a new season high for the righty. Transfer
Emilie Hoelscher made a brief appearance as she only saw one inning of play.
With UTA's 9-4 loss, Adams moves on to a 1-3 record.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will play a single game on Sunday, Feb. 18 against DePaul that is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. from Allan Saxe Field.
