STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (12-12, 8-6 WAC) earned the season-sweep over Tarleton State (7-16, 4-10 WAC) inside Wisdom Gym on Thursday evening by a final score of 71-58.
For the game, the Lady Mavs shot an outstanding 51-percent from the floor, their second game in a row shooting over 50-percent. This marks the sixth game this season the Lady Mavs have shot 50-percent or better for the game. This is the third highest shooting percentage on the season for UTA, with both games against SFA where the Lady Mavs shot better than 51-percent.
Three Lady Mavs registered double figures led by
Gia Adams who led all scorers with 22 points on an impressive 8-of-10 shooting and 4-of-5 from deep, tying her season-high from beyond the arc. Adams also secured two rebounds, dished out an assist, blocked one shot and had one steal in 32 minutes of action. In her past three games, Adams has been lights out from deep, going 11-of-17.
Avery Brittingham finished with 13 points on 5-for-10 from the floor. She also pulled down six rebounds, passed out two assists, had two blocks and one steal in 32 minutes. Adela Valkova dropped 10 points on an efficient 4-of-6 from the field. Valkova also grabbed four rebounds, had two assists and added two more blocks to her WAC leading total.
Nya Threatt played a quality 34 minutes, tying her career high by snagging seven rebounds and blocking two shots. She finished the game with seven points, three assists and one steal. The Lady Mavs bench scored 13 points, highlighted by five from
Kali Haizlip and four from
Hannah Humphrey.
Tarleton took an early lead, going up by as many as three in the first quarter. The Lady Mavs would claim the lead on a three-pointer from Adams with 5:28 left in the quarter to go up 9-7 and would never look back as they would lead the remainder of the contest.
Heading into the second quarter, UTA led Tarleton by 11 and throughout the second, the Texans could not cut the lead below eight. The Lady Mavs took a 16 point-lead into the half, 41-25. At the half, Adams had 18 points and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and 4-of-4 from deep.
In the third quarter, the Lady Mavs saw their biggest lead of the game, going up by 20 points with 35 seconds left in the quarter, and never found their lead below double digits.
A fourth quarter push by the Texans saw the Lady Mavs lead get to nine two times before a Brittingham layup and two
Taliyah Clark free throws put UTA up by 11 both times.
As a team, the Lady Mavs dominated the paint, putting up 30 points down low compared to the Texans 14. UTA had a season-high eight blocks for the game.
