Mavs Drop Game Two Of The Series Against Boston College

ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team fell to the Boston College Eagles, 0-3. The Mavericks weren't able to plate any runs on the day, however, the Mavs were able to out hit the Eagles, 9 hits to 7. The 9 hits by the Mavs were tied for the 3rd most in a game this season, this was just the third time UTA has been shutout in the past 149 games, dating back to Apr. 1, 2021. 
 
Caylon Dygert, the freshman from Magnolia, Texas, performed well in his second start of the season, recording 2 strike outs, and allowing just 5 hits in 26 batters faced. The freshman was also able to keep the Eagles hitless up until the top of the 5th inning. Dygert currently has the lowest ERA on the team with a 1.88 ERA throughout 14.1 innings pitched. 
 
Offensively, the Mavs were getting on base, recording 9 hits, and drawing 2 walks on the game. However, UTA was unable to plate any runs when it mattered. The 9 hits by the Mavs offense are tied for the 3rd most in a game this season, and the most in a game in a loss. 

Newcomers Ryan Ellis, Tate Bethel and Parker Airhart were able to corral 2 hits on the day, the trio currently lead the Mavs in batting average during the early season. Ellis leads the team with a .400 average, with Bethel (.348) and Airhart (.346) ranking second and third. Ryan Black (.320) and Cason Gregory (.333) are the only other Mavericks to sit above a .300 average this season.
 
PITCHING PROFILE
Austin Wallace made his third appearance this year, his second as a reliever, and rang up a batter throughout 8 batters faced. Joe Steeber also made his third appearance this season, coming in relief at the top of the 9th inning with 2 outs and recorded a strikeout in the only batter he faced.

The Mavs will play in the series finale tomorrow at Clay Gould Ballpark, schedule for a 12:30 p.m. start time.
