Lady Mavs Fall At Utah Tech, 88-69

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (14-13, 10-7 WAC) was defeated 88-69 by Utah Tech (16-11, 10-6 WAC) inside Burns Arena on Saturday afternoon behind a big second half run.
 
The Lady Mavs were led by Avery Brittingham who recorded her ninth double-double of the year, finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds. She also dished out four assists in 29 minutes of action. 
 
Gia Adams continued her torrid pace, finishing with 16 points for the game. This marks the 13th straight game and 21st game overall she has registered double digits in scoring. Adams also finished with four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 36 minutes of play.
 
In addition to those two performances, Taliyah Clark chipped in with 10 points, three rebounds and one assist. Adela Valkova finished with seven points and seven rebounds. Masengo Mutanda had six points, two rebounds and two assists off the bench for the Lady Mavs.
 
It was a back and forth first half with both the first and second quarters ending in a tie. Kali Haizlip had a layup in the paint to send us to the second tied 20-20. Adams sent us to halftime tied 38-38 after draining a deep three with 25 seconds left.
 
Utah Tech came out the half scoring the first eight points and never looked back, maintaining the lead for the remainder of the game. The Trailblazers were paced by Breaunna Gillen who finished with 38 points.
 
This is the first game since the season opener that the Lady Mavs did not record a block. Despite the loss, UTA managed to outrebound Utah Tech 46-42. The Lady Mavs held the Utah Tech bench to no points while putting up 14 themselves.
 
NEXT UP
The Lady Mavs return home for the final homestand of the season beginning with Seattle U on Thursday, Feb. 29, at 6 p.m. and then welcome Utah Valley to the CPC on Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m.
