YOUNGSVILLE, Louisiana – Behind a cold offense, the UT Arlington softball team dropped back-to-back games against Eastern Illinois and Southeastern Louisiana on day one of the Mardi Gras Mambo on Friday from Youngsville Sports Complex.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. Eastern Illinois (L, 1-0)
The Mavericks struggled in game one of the tournament as the team produced five hits.
Camille Corona (1-3),
Jessica Adams (1-3),
Alaina Hampton (1-3),
Nikki Donahue (1-2) and
Emma Lopez (1-3) all came away with one hit apiece.
On the mound, senior
Gracie Bumpurs got the start and went on to throw five innings, allowing just two hits. Across 19 batters, the righty tabbed just one walk with three strike outs.
Junior Adams came in for just one inning as a UTA error allowed the go-ahead run across, ultimately giving Adams the loss.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs. Southeastern Louisiana (L, 3-0)
UTA's bats went even colder in game two, however two-way player Adams led the Maverick offense with a 3-3 performance at the plate. The Bryan, Texas native currently paces the squad so far this season as she sits on a .625 batting average over eight at-bats.
Of the Mavs' four total hits against the Lady Lions, freshman
Kaitlyn Sailor – who got her first start as a UTA Maverick – went 1-3 with a single to shortstop.

Kara Dill gave lefty transfer
Emilie Hoelscher her first start in the circle as she tossed 5.1 innings, allowing three runs off six hits before Adams made her second appearance for UTA.
The Mavericks' offensive efforts were unsuccessful, giving Hoelscher the loss.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will kick off day two of the Mardi Gras Mambo with a 3:30 p.m. start against ULM before taking to the diamond immediately after as the Mavs will face Nicholls at 5:30 p.m.
