BEAUMONT, TEXAS – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team dropped the first game of the weekend series to Lamar University, 2-4.
Offensive struggles and another error-filled night caused some issues for the Mavs, as they recorded just 3 hits and allowed just 1 earned run. A duo of errors by the Mavs caused 3 additional runs to plate for Lamar.
The Mavs offense could not seem to get the bats rolling in the loss, recording just three hits as a team. A solo shot to deep left field by
Tyson Pointer in the top of the 5th inning was the first hit of the day for the Mavs, which put the Mavs up 1-0. His second hit came in the top of the 7th inning and the only other hit of the evening belonged to
JD Moreno, which came in the top of the 8th inning.
Fielding mistakes also continued to plague the Mavs recently as they logged 2 errors in the loss, which helped plate 3 unearned runs for the Cardinals. The Mavs have now recorded 9 errors in the past three games.
