LAS VEGAS – The UT Arlington men's basketball team has officially secured the #3 seed, a 1st-round bye and will begin its Western Athletic Conference Tournament at Orleans Arena on Thursday, Mar. 14, at 10:30 p.m. CT (8:30 local) against the winner of #6 Stephen F. Austin and #7 Abilene Christian.
Entering the postseason as the hottest team in the league, UTA has won six games in a row – double the next-longest streak – and in the process notched a top-4 seed and aforementioned 1st-round bye.
With a win over SFA or ACU in the quarterfinals, the Mavs (18-13 overall and 13-7 in the WAC) would advance to face #2 Tarleton State (23-8, 16-4) in the semifinals on Friday at 10:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU as the Texans received a double bye as a result of finishing in the top 2.
The championship game would also be at 10:30 p.m. CT on Saturday and air on ESPN2. Grand Canyon (27-4, 17-3) is the #1 seed.
All-session and single-session tickets are available through Ticketmaster. UTA's quarterfinal game Thursday will air on ESPN+, while in addition to the previously mentioned national TV coverage of the semifinal and final those will also have nationwide audio broadcasts on SiriusXM.
Additionally, all tournament games will continue to air on 102.5 FM and 620 AM as they have all season long with the Voice of the Mavs Josh Sours on the call. Those will also be streamed on The Varsity Network app and UTAMavs.com.
UTA split the season series with both SFA (17-14, 10-10) and ACU (15-16, 10-10) as the Mavs lost each matchup on the road, but won both at home. Both of those setbacks came in January, and since the ACU loss on Jan. 20 the Mavs have gone 8-3 with the three losses coming by a combined nine points.
The 2023-24 WAC All-Conference awards will be released by league officials on Monday, and complete tournament coverage will be posted on UTAMavs.com on Tuesday.
