ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's basketball (8-5, 0-1 WAC) looks to even its conference record when the Mavs host California Baptist (10-4, 0-1 WAC) at the College Park Center on Thursday at 2 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast live on
ESPN+ and can be heard live on the Varsity Network App with the Voice of the Mavs, Josh Sours and Parker Eidson on the call.
The Mavericks are looking to bounce back from a 69-63 home loss to Tarleton State on Monday. California Baptist is in the same boat, also looking to earn their first WAC win after falling on the road at Utah Valley 73-66 on Monday night in Orem, Utah.
The Lancers are led by head coach Rick Croy, who has been at the helm since the spring of 2013. Croy is 390-167 all-time as a head coach, 260 of those wins during his time in Riverside (128-103 since moving to Division I). Prior to taking over at CBU, Croy was also a head coach at Citrus College. Additionally Croy served as an assistant at St. Mary's, UC Riverside and Concordia.
Cal Baptist is led by guard Dominique Daniels, Jr., who is averaging a team-high 20.5 ppg and 4.2. Fellow guard Martell Williams in also scoring in double figures, averaging 14.9 ppg and 4.9 rpg.
Thursday's meeting between UTA and Cal Baptist will be the sixth all-time, with UTA having won two of the past three meetings, both wins coming in Arlington. The teams split their meetings last year, an 82-79 overtime win in Arlington on Feb. 13, and a 70-68 win by CBU in Riverside.
For the Mavs, senior guard
Marcell McCreary has been on a tear, having scored in double figures in 10 of his last 11 games, including a 12-point outing against Tarleton State on Monday. Senior forward
Raysean Seamster, who was a preseason All-WAC selection by the league's head coaches returned to form, scoring 11 points and pulling down eight rebounds on Monday night. He is averaging a team-high 14.1 ppg and 6.8 rpg.
