ARLINGTON– The UT Arlington men's tennis team (5-6) look to rebound from their two road losses in San Antonio in matches against No. 62 NJIT (2 p.m.) on Wednesday and Drake (11 a.m.) on Friday at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mavericks fell 4-3 to No. 60 Utah State and 4-0 to UTSA in their most recent matches. Their match against Utah State came down to the wire after the Mavs dropped a close doubles point.
Two-time WAC Singles Player of the Week
Joan Torres Espinosa still remains undefeated in the spring as he moved to 6-0 with his win on Court 1 over Utah State. He is currently on a nine-match winning streak after taking down strong opponents from Texas Tech and Rice.
Dante Teramo also holds six wins in the spring as he heads into the series of matches with a 6-3 record. He fell in a close third set against Utah State but has earned solid wins over Rice, DePaul and New Mexico State.
Freshman duo
Meethre Barot and
Andres Medus hold the second most singles wins in the spring, both at 5-4. Barot closed out a tight match over Texas Tech while Medus took down his Utah State opponent in three close sets.
In doubles action, Espinosa and Teramo have been key to the Mavs' doubles success as they earned their second Doubles Team of the Week honor. The pair are currently 9-4 overall and moved to 5-2 in the spring. They are on a three-match winning streak after taking down opponents from New Mexico State, Texas Tech and Utah State.
SCOUTING NJIT
The No. 62 ranked Highlanders have only lost one dual match as they stand at 11-1 on the season. Their one loss was to Drexel 4-3 in February. They have also defeated No. 67 Dartmouth 4-3. Wednesday's match will be the first time in program history that the Mavericks and Highlanders have faced each other.
SCOUTING DRAKE
The Bulldogs are currently 8-5 in the spring season as they head into Friday's match. In their most recent match they fell 6-1 to Tulsa, but have defeated Wichita State and North Dakota previously. They also defeated Creighton and Indiana in previous matches. In the ITA Rankings, doubles team Oliver Johansson and Matija Matic sit at No. 61.
