LAS VEGAS – Following standout performances in helping UT Arlington to the championship game, both Phillip Russell and Shemar Wilson garnered selections to the 2024 University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball All-Tournament Team.
 
Russell averaged 23.3 points and 6 assists over three games, shooting 56.4% (22-39) from the floor and connecting at a perfect 1.000% (13-13) from the free throw line. Wilson averaged 15 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2 blocks while connecting at 60% (15-25) from the field.
 
Russell scored 70 points for the tournament – 20 more than any other player – and knocked down 13 3-pointers, which were more than double the next-closest players as he filled it up at a 52% rate from beyond the arc. The St. Louis native also issued a tournament-most 18 assists.
 
The junior guard opened his week with a season-high 30 points in a record-setting 109-78 quarterfinal win over Stephen F. Austin, knocking down seven triples in the contest to tie for the 3rd most in a single game in WAC Tournament history. In the semifinals, he notched his first double-double of the season with 18 points and a career-high-tying 10 assists before delivering a 22-point performance in Saturday's final against Grand Canyon.
 
As for Wilson, the 6-9 forward tied a career high with 29 points on an efficient 12-16 from the floor and 5-6 from the free throw line in helping lead UTA to an 87-84 semifinal win over Tarleton State. He also pulled down five boards in that contest as part of 16 for the tournament, which in terms of total boards represented the 3rd most among all players.
 
He followed it up with another double-figure scoring outing of 13 to go along with five rebounds versus GCU. Wilson also had three blocks in each of the first two games of the week as those six rejections were two more than any other player.
