RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team defeated the California Baptist Lancers this Friday, 14-2, making it the fourth-consecutive conference series where the Mavs won game one.
GAME FLOW
The Mavs opened up the game on fire, plating 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning.
Ryan Black started the scoring for the Mavs as he recorded an RBI double to left-center field to plate
Garrison Berkley, who reached base with a leadoff single, to take an early 1-0 lead. The Mavs then loaded the bases after back-to-back walks from
Tyson Pointer and
Ryan Ellis, and
Tate Bethel was able to bring in Black on a SAC groundout.
Parker Airhart plated the third run of the inning with a single through the infield to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
The Lancers were able to plate a run in the bottom of the 1st to cut the Maverick lead to 3-1, however the Mavs got that run right back in the top of the 3rd thanks to Berkley's infield single that brought home Airhart, who reached base with a double, to jump back out to a 3-run lead.
The Mavs offense exploded in the top of the 4th inning, plating 7 runs to ultimately put the game out of reach for CBU. To start the inning, Pointer roped a single to third base and was advanced to third after Bethel hit a double.
JD Moreno loaded the bases after he was hit by a pitch, and Airhart battled an 8-pitch at bat for a walk to bring home Pointer.
Tyce Armstrong hit a single over the second baseman's head to plate Bethel to increase the Maverick lead to 6-1.
In the next at bat,
Cason Gregory hit a SAC fly to center field to score Moreno to jump out to a 7-1 lead. Berkley battled a walk to load the bases for
Ryan Black, who blasted a double to left field to plate all three runners to increase the lead to 9 runs. Black was then brought home by
Ryan Ellis, who hit a single to left field, to make the lead 11-1.
In the top of the 6th inning, the Mavs had two outs on the board and were able to plate 3 more runs on no hits to put the game into run-rule watch. Berkley and Black both reached home after a throwing error and wild pitch, and Airhart was walked with bases loaded to plate the 14th run of the game.
CBU did end up plating just one more run in the bottom of the 6th, however, the game was put into a run rule, with the Mavs winning 14-2 in 7 innings.

Caden Noah was tabbed as the starter and went 5 full innings, recording 5 strikeouts and allowing just 4 hits in the 20 batters he faced. The Longview, Texas native was able to record his second win of the season.
