ARLINGTON, Texas – With a 6-3 victory over Southern Utah, the UT Arlington softball team secured its first conference sweep of the season on Saturday from Allan Saxe Field.
As a team, UTA produced a total of 15 runs off 17 hits as fifth year transfer
Camille Corona led the Mavericks' offense going 5-6 at the plate over the weekend. The infielder raised her overall batting average to an impressive .415 and .458 in WAC play alone.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs Southern Utah (W, 6-3)
The Mavericks were led by Corona - who recorded her 11th multi-hit contest of the season – with a 3-3 outing at the plate. Contributing to the Mavericks' seven-hit total were
Kaitlyn Sailor (1-4, 2 RBI),
Lindsey Franklin (1-3, 2 RBI),

Paris Brienesse (1-3).
Head coach
Kara Dill gave freshman
Abi Gutierrez the start in the circle as she went on to throw five innings. The lefty faced 19 batters as she limited the Thunderbirds to two earned runs off four hits.
Dill made a pitching change in the top of the sixth inning as Adams came in for relief. The junior struggled at first, allowing SUU to plate three runs across to cut the deficit down to a one-run game heading into bottom of the inning.
It was Sailor who created a cushion for the Mavericks with an RBI-single in the right center gap that brought two more runs across in the bottom of the sixth. The freshman now has 18 RBI – second-most on the team.
Adams tabbed a 1-2-3 to bring the game to a close, securing her first save of the year as Gutierrez was credited with the win.
ON DECK
UTA will continue its midweek schedule with a Tuesday evening matchup at Texas A&M – Commerce on Apr. 2 beginning at 6 p.m.
