Softball Drops Midweek Despite Outhitting Lions

COMMERCE, Texas – A fourth-inning rally pushed Texas A&M – Commerce past the UT Arlington softball team as the Mavericks dropped their midweek contest to the Lions with a final score of 5-2 from John Cain Family Softball Complex.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at Texas A&M – Commerce (L, 5-2)
The Mavericks outhit the Lions 9-8 as veteran Lindsey Franklin paced the lineup with a 2-2 performance at the plate with a walk. Now, the fifth year sits on a high batting average of .374 as the power-hitter has proved to play a vital role in head coach Kara Dill's lineup.

UTA's Camille Corona (1-4, 2 RBI) was the one responsible for tying things up in the top of the fourth as the lefty transfer ripped an RBI-double to center, collecting her 40th hit of the season and 11th RBI.

Marley Neises (1-4), Kaitlyn Sailor (1-2), Jessica Adams (1-2), Cameron Cooper (1-3), Alaina Hampton (1-2) and Nicole Hill (1-1) all contributed to the Mavs' nine-hit total with one hit each.

Both Franklin and Sailor recorded their sixth double of the season as the pair share a team high.

Jade Moreno received her eighth start of the 2024 season as the right-handed pitcher went on to throw 3.0 innings, allowing two earned runs off four hits. Across 14 Lions faced, Moreno walked one and struck out two. The freshman now has 24 strike outs on the year.

Emilie Hoelscher came into the game and gave up three runs, allowing Texas A&M – Commerce to plate the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the fourth. Shortly after, Dill turned to freshman Abi Gutierrez to relieve Hoelscher as the lefty tossed to just three batters.

Junior Jessica Adams threw the remainder of the game after entering in the bottom of the fifth. Unfortunately, the Mavericks struggled to answer as Hoelscher was handed her second loss of the season.

ON DECK
UTA will make its way out west for a three-game conference series at Grand Canyon beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 5 followed by the final game of the series on Saturday, Apr. 6 from GCU Softball Complex.
