ARLINGTON, TEXAS – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team fell to the Arizona State Sun Devils this Tuesday, 3-6. Offensive struggles have plagued the Mavs all season, as this is now the fifth-straight game, and ninth overall, where the Mavs have scored 3 or less runs
in a game.
The Mavericks opened the game on fire in the bottom of the 1st with a quick run thanks to a
Ryan Black double which brought in
Jackson Hill, who reached base on a walk. Heading into the bottom of the 2nd with a 1-0 lead, the Mavs continued to stay hot as
Jackson Hill plated
Tyce Armstrong who reached base due to several Arizona State errors, which increased the early lead, 2-0. The Mavericks looked hot and were able to record four hits in the first 2 innings, however, those were the only hits by a Maverick up until the bottom of the 9th inning.
After a strong offensive start to the game, the Mavericks had no answers for the Arizona State bullpen as the Sun Devils were able to record 18 straight outs without allowing a run and contributed 6 of it's own runs in the 6-inning stretch, plating 2 in the top of the 5th, and 4 more runs coming in the top of the 7th.
