AUSTIN – Despite a strong start, the UT Arlington softball team couldn't maintain its momentum as the Mavs suffered an 8-1 loss at No. 1/2 Texas Wednesday night from McCombs Field.
UTA held it down on defense along with multiple at-bats with great contact, but Texas ultimately powered through as the Horns outhit the Mavericks 10-6.

UTA came out firing in its first at-bats as
Lindsey Franklin (1-3),
Jade Moreno (1-3) and
Morgan Westbrook (2-2) struck with singles.
Westbrook led the way offensively with her first multi-hit performance so far this season. Junior
Nicole Hill entered the game and tabbed an infield single.
Former Texas Longhorn,
Camille Corona, knocked her first triple in her career with a shot in the left center gap that scored UTA's lone run in the top of the fifth which went down as Corona's 25th hit on the year.
Head coach
Kara Dill gave
Gracie Bumpurs the start in the circle as the righty went on to throw just one inning, facing seven Longhorns.
Freshman
Abi Gutierrez made a brief appearance on the mound before Moreno came in and threw the remainder of the game. Between the trio, 10 hits and eight earned runs were allowed. The Mavericks were unable to battle back, handing Bumpurs her sixth loss on the season.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will take a weekend off from action and pick back up with a midweek contest at Houston Christian on Tuesday, Mar. 12 at 5 p.m.
