ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team split its midweek doubleheader with the Ladyjacks of Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday, Apr. 10 from Allan Saxe Field.
After a tough extra-inning battle between both programs, the Mavericks suffered a 6-5 loss to SFA despite holding the Jacks to a 5-2 ball game up until the top of the 7th. After a scoreless 8th and 9th inning, SFA went on to pick up the series opener.
UTA relied solely off the arm of left-handed pitcher
Abi Gutierrez who went on to etch her name in program history, reaching a new milestone of 13 strike outs in a single game as that number is now the ninth-most in program lore.

As a team, UTA notched 11 hits as fifth year
Camille Corona led the way with her 12th multi-hit game of the season going 3-4 at the plate.

Marley Neises (1-5, 1 RBI),
Valerie Ornelas (1-4),
Alaina Hampton (1-5),
Morgan Westbrook (1-1, 1 RBI),
Kaylee Cavazos (1-1) and
Cameron Cooper (1-1) all contributed to the Mavericks' offense with one hit each.
Junior
Jessica Adams tossed her fifth complete game of the season as she reached a new career-high of 42 batters faced as her previous high was 41 one season ago. The right-handed pitcher came away with seven strike outs as she allowed four earned runs off 12 hits.

Three Mavericks recorded multi-hit efforts as Corona (2-4), Neises (2-3) and Westbrook (2-3, 3 RBI) led the way.
Infielder Corona continues to lead head coach
Kara Dill's lineup as she raised her overall season batting average to an impressive .421 with 48 hits. The fifth year has been absolutely incredible in the box for the Mavs as she now holds 13 multi-hit games – most on the team.
Westbrook belted her first home run of the year as the three-run bomb came in the bottom of the fifth that helped lift UTA to a 4-0 lead.
Sophomore
Nikki Donahue shared the credit in the Mavs' seven-hit total as she finished 1-2 at the plate.
Gutierrez put up unbelievable numbers in the circle for UTA as she limited SFA's offense to just one earned run off four hits. As mentioned, the freshman now holds the 9th-most strike outs in a single game in program history. Across 27 batters faced, Gutierrez stunned the Ladyjacks with just one walk.
ON DECK
UTA will turn around and stay at home with a three-game series with the Wolverines of Utah Valley that is scheduled to begin with a doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 12 from Allan Saxe Field.
