ARLINGTON, Texas – After an exciting extra-inning victory, the UT Arlington softball team split Friday's pair of games after suffering a 1-0 loss to Utah Valley from Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks competed in their third extra-inning contest of the year and second in the last three games as UTA now moves on to an overall record of 16-26 with a 7-8 record in conference action.

Zaia Castruita paced UTA's offense with a multi-hit performance. The infielder racked up two RBI, including the winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning to secure the Mavs' extra-inning victory.

Morgan Westbrook (1-4),
Lindsey Franklin (1-2),
Kaitlyn Sailor (1-3) and
Jessica Adams (1-1) all contributed to the Mavericks' offense as Adams came away with one RBI.
Senior pitcher
Gracie Bumpurs earned her 11th start in the circle so far this season as the right-hander faced 35 batters, coming away with four strike outs. In eight innings pitched, Bumpurs allowed three runs off five hits.
Thanks to Castruita's walk-off double, Bumpurs went on to record her second win of the season.

UTA's bat struggled in game two as the Mavs put up just three hits. Castruita led the way once again with a 2-3 outing at the plate, grabbing her seventh multi-hit contest of the 2024 season.
Freshman
Kaitlyn Sailor logged a 1-3 performance – her 27th hit of the year.
Junior Adams tossed her sixth complete game of the season in a tough 1-0 loss to Utah Valley as she limited the Wolverines' lineup to just one run off eight hits. Unfortunately, UTA failed to answer back, giving Adams the loss.
ON DECK
UTA will wrap up its series with Utah Valley with a noon start on Saturday, Apr. 13 from Allan Saxe Field as the series finale will serve as UTA Softball Alumni Day.
