LEWISVILLE, Texas – Gia Adams and
Avery Brittingham both earned Honorable Mention All-Texas recognition from Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball in their first season donning the blue and orange.
This is the second consecutive year that Brittingham has earned Honorable Mention honors, earning the distinction last season as part of the Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team.
Brittingham, a senior forward from Crowley High School, averaged 13.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.5 steals in 33 games, making 33 starts. She led the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in double-doubles with 12 while also leading the conference in total rebounds (276) and rebounds per game (8.4). She was second in the WAC in blocks with 43 and third in the conference in blocks per game with 1.30. Averaging 3.9 assists per game, Brittingham ranks fourth in the WAC while she comes in third in total assists with 129. Her 44.9 field goal percentage was the fifth best in the league. Her second career triple double came against her former team in SFA back on January 6 when she posted 11 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, just the second triple double in UTA history.
Adams, a junior guard from Jersey Village High School, averaged 14.5 points, 3.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 33 games while making 33 starts. She led the team in averaging 32.3 minutes per game, the only player on the roster to average over 30 minutes. Adams' 45.0 field goal percentage was the fourth best mark in the WAC while her 1.74 assist to turnover ratio was also the fourth best mark in the conference. Her 480 total points was the third best mark in the WAC while her 14.5 points per game was the fifth best mark in the conference.
Adams was the lone representative for the Lady Mavs on the WAC First Team All-Conference squad while Brittingham was named to the WAC Honorable Mention team.
Both helped lead the Lady Mavs to a fifth overall seed in the WAC tournament while guiding UTA to their first two wins in the WAC tournament.
