ARLINGTON, TEXAS – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team defeated the TCU Horned Frogs 6-4 this Tuesday evening at Clay Gould Ballpark.
GAME FLOW
To begin the game, the Mavs got off to an strong start scoring a run in the bottom of the 1st inning thanks to a
Tate Bethel RBI single that plated
Tyson Pointer. The Horned Frogs went on to even up the game at 1-1 in the top of the 3rd, however the Mavs were able to strike back in the bottom of the frame with 4 runs to take a 5-1 lead at the end of three.
Bethel recorded another RBI in the 3rd inning with a single to left field that brought in
Ryan Black, who reached base on a single of his own.
Tyce Armstrong plated the second run of the inning with an RBI single through the infield and
Parker Airhart also recorded an RBI single to plate the third run of the inning.
Kyzer Harrington brought in the final run of the inning with a SAC fly to center field.
The Horned Frogs had an attempt at a comeback in the top of the 6th inning by scoring 3 runs to shorten the Maverick lead to just 1 run. However, the Mavs punched right back in the bottom of the inning and regained a run after Black roped a double on two outs to plate Harrington to jump out to a 6-4 lead.
Jacob Hasty and
Joe Steeber pitched the final 3 innings of the game and were able to hold the lead for the first midweek win for the Mavericks.
PITCHING PROFILE
The Mavs utilized 8 different pitchers in the win with
Aaron Calhoun getting the start. Calhoun allowed no hits and walked just one batter in the three he faced.
Jacob Hasty, who came in for relief in the 7th inning, had himself a performance with 3 strikeouts in his 2.0 innings pitched. The Mizzou transfer logged the most innings today and only allowed just one hit in the three batters he faced off against.
Joe Steeber, tasked with getting the save, did just that in his lone inning. The native of Southlake, Texas recorded his second save of the season while recording a strikeout in his appearance.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will head south to Edinburg, Texas for a conference series against the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros from Apr. 5-7.
