EDINBURG, TEXAS – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team fell to the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros 8-2 this Friday evening at UTRGV Baseball Stadium. The series-opening loss makes it just the first time all season the Mavericks have lost the first game of a conference series.
GAME FLOW
The Mavericks were able to strike first in the top of the 2nd inning after
JD Moreno belted an RBI single to plate
Ryan Ellis, taking an early 1-0 lead. However the Vaqueros responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the 2nd inning to tie the game.
The Vaqueros continued to put up runs as the Mavericks were unable to record another hit until the top of the 9th inning when Ellis plated
Ryan Black with an RBI single up the middle. The Mavericks 4 hits on the day tie for the second lowest throughout the season.
PITCHING PROFILE
Zach Norris was tabbed as the starter for the 8th time this season and picked up 5 strikeouts in the 3.2 innings he pitched. The senior from Paris, Texas allowed no walks in the 21 batters he faced.
Cade McGlade made an appearance as a reliever in the 4th inning and was able to strikeout 4 Vaqueros on the night. The McKinney, Texas native threw for a season high 3.0 innings and allowed no walks and just 4 hits in the 13 batters he faced.
The Mavericks pitching staff allowed 0 walks throughout the game and have allowed 0 walks in three out of the last four games.
