Mavericks Fall to GCU in Doubleheader

PHOENIX, Ariz. – In a pair of run-rule losses, the UT Arlington softball program dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader against Grand Canyon with final scores of 9-1 and 9-0.

Now, the Mavericks move on to an overall record of 14-23 with an even 5-5 record in WAC play.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at Grand Canyon (L, 9-1) 6 Innings
UTA's offense struggled to get anything going in game one against the Lopes, coming away with just three hits.

Camille Corona collected her 41st hit of the season after going 1-3 at the plate as the fifth year is currently riding a six-game hitting streak.

Joining Corona with one hit is senior infielder Zaia Castruita (1-2) as sophomore Alaina Hampton (1-2, 1 RBI) belted her first home run of the season which went down as the Mavs' lone run.

Senior Gracie Bumpurs tossed her second complete game of the season as she reached a new season-high of 32 batters faced with five strike outs. The right-hander allowed eight earned runs off 14 hits, taking the loss.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at Grand Canyon (L, 9-1) 5 Innings
Junior Nicole Hill recorded a perfect 2-2 performance at the plate – her second multi-hit contest of the season – with a pair of singles. Across 20 games played and 18 at-bats, the lefty is now batting .389.

Corona (1-2), Kaitlyn Sailor (1-3) and Emma Lopez (1-2) all shared base hits, contributing to UTA's five-hit total.

Junior pitcher Jessica Adams earned her tenth start in the circle for the Mavericks so far this season as she went on to allow six earned runs off four hits. The righty lasted for just one inning before freshman Jade Moreno came in to throw the remainder of the game.

Unfortunately, UTA's bats couldn't ignite a spark as the Mavs dropped game two against the Lopes with a final score of 9-1 in six innings.

ON DECK
UTA will play its final game of the three-game series against Grand Canyon with a 3 p.m. CT start on Saturday, Apr. 6 from GCU Softball Stadium.
