UTA Comeback Falls Short in Series Finale Thriller

ST. GEORGE, Utah – In a thrilling series finale, the UT Arlington softball team's comeback bid fell just short against Utah Tech on Saturday with a final score of 9-8 from Karl Brooks Field.

The Mavericks have dropped the last four games as the program moves on to an overall record of 20-30 and 10-12 in conference action.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at Utah Tech (L, 9-8)
Once again, UTA's offense was led by infield transfer Camille Corona who produced yet another multi-hit contest with a 3-4 performance at the plate. The fifth year went 7-10 on the weekend with two RBI – which came from a clutch RBI-double in the top of the sixth that tied things up for UTA, 8-8.

Now, Corona is batting .421 overall with a .471 average in WAC play alone. Against conference opponents, the standout leads with a .532 on base percentage, 10 walks, 16 runs scored and 32 hits.

It was a home run marathon for the Maverick lineup as Kaitlyn Sailor (4th), Marley Neises (6th), Kaylee Cavazos (2nd) and Nikki Donahue (2nd) all contributed to UTA's offensive success as the squad reached a new season high of home runs in a single game.

The Mavs totaled nine hits on the day, including singles from Nicole Hill (1-4) and Emma Lopez (1-3).

Junior Jessica earned her second start of the series against the Trailblazers as she went on to throw five innings, allowing four earned runs off eight hits. With just one walk, the right-handed pitcher came away with four strike outs.

Freshman Abi Gutierrez entered the tied ball game in the bottom of the sixth as an unfortunate passed ball allowed for Utah Tech to plate the go ahead run, handing Gutierrez her sixth loss of the season.

ON DECK
The Mavericks will round out the regular season at home as UTA will welcome Seattle U to Allan Saxe Field for senior weekend, beginning Friday, May 3.
