UT Arlington Baseball Drop Series Finale Against Houston

HOUSTON – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team fell to the Houston Cougars 9-4 in the final game of the non-conference weekend series at the Don Sanders Field at the Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park this Sunday.
 
GAME FLOW
The Cougars scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st to take an early 2-0 lead, however the Mavs were able to claw back with a run in the top of the 2nd after Parker Airhart scored on a balk.
 
The Mavs tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the 3rd inning after Tyson Pointer recorded an inside-the-park home run to right field. In the bottom of the 3rd however, the Cougars scored 4 runs to take a 6-2 lead by the end of the frame.
 
Houston scored another run in the bottom of the 5th to increase its lead to 7-2, however, Parker Airhart blasted a 2-run homerun in the top of the 6th inning to cut the Cougars lead down to 7-4. The Cougars took a run back in the bottom of the 6th to jump out to a 4-run, 8-4 lead.
 
The Cougars picked up another two runs in the bottom of the 8th to increase its lead to 10-4, which is where the game stayed until the final out.
 
 
PITCHING PROFILE
 
Caden Noah got his 6th start of the season and was able to pitch 2.1 innings and allowed a walk and was able to pick up a strikeout on the first batter he faced.
 
Nicholas Robb came in for relief in the 3rd inning and pitched for 4.2 innings allowing just 5 hits in the 20 batters he faced. The Freshman from Keller, Texas also struck a batter out and allowed just 1 walk.
 
BOX SCORE NUGGETS
  • Tyson Pointer had his third-straight multi-hit game with a 3-for-4 outing in the series finale. He also recorded an inside the park homerun in the 3rd inning for his 8th homerun of the season.
  • Both Tate Bethel and Parker Airhart had multi-hit games each slashing 2 hits in the outing. Airhart also accounted for one of two Maverick homeruns with a 2-run blast in the 6th inning.
 
ON DECK
The Mavs will head to Waco, Texas for the final game of its long 8-game road stretch against the Baylor Bears on Tuesday, April 30 at 6 p.m.
