WACO, TEXAS – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team concluded its 8-game road stretch with a 5-3 loss against the Baylor Bears in the final Big 12 midweek-game of the season at the Baylor Ballpark this Tuesday.
GAME FLOW
Baylor took control of the game early and opened up with a 2-run inning plating both runs in the bottom of the 1st. The Mavericks were able to plate a run in the top of the 3rd inning to cut the game to 2-1 after
Tyson Pointer scored off a wild pitch. Pointer reached base after getting hit by his second pitch of the night and advanced to third with two steals.
The Bears struck back with a run of its own in the bottom of the 3rd to regain its 2-run lead, however, the Mavericks clawed back with a run when
Jordan Medellin plated
Tate Bethel with a SAC FLY to left field to cut the Baylor lead to 3-2.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Baylor plated another run to take a 2-run lead once again at 4-2. The Mavs scored another run in the top of the 7th to bring it back to a 1-run game after
Parker Airhart roped an RBI single which plated
Ryan Black, who reached on a single of his own.
The Bears regained its 2-run lead in the bottom of the 7th after a fielding error from the Mavericks, which is where the game remained until the final out.
PITCHING PROFILE
The Mavs utilized 5 pitchers in the game with
Aaron Calhoun getting the start for the 11th time this season. The native of Pearland, Texas pitched for 3.0 innings and picked up a strikeout and allowed 5 hits in the 15 batters he faced.
Cade McGlade came in for relief and performed well in his 2.0 innings pitched by allowing just 1 hit and picking up a strikeout in the 7 batters he faced.
Trevor Eby pitched for 1.0 innings and picked up his first strikeout of the season and allowed 2 hits in his lone inning.
BOX SCORE NUGGETS
- Tate Bethel had himself a multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 performance with a triple, his second of the season, during the game.
- The Mavericks pitching staff, who rank 2nd in the NCAA in walks allowed per nine innings with a 2.92 mark, allowed just 2 walks all game.
