5-Run 9th Inning For The Mavs Caps Off Comeback Win Over Vaqueros

EDINBURG, TEXAS – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team defeated the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros 9-5 this Saturday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium. 
 
GAME FLOW
The Mavericks were able to strike first in the top of the 2nd inning after Garrison Berkley recorded an RBI SAC fielder's choice to take a 1-0 lead. The Vaqueros punch back in bottom of the 2nd and jumped out to a 2-1 lead.
 
The Mavs tied the game in the top of the 4th inning thanks to a Parker Airhart solo shot to deep left field. UTA retook the lead in the top of the 6th inning when Ryan Ellis scored Tyson Pointer with an RBI single towards right center.
 
The Vaqueros scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to take a 5-3 lead and looked in full control of the game, however, the Mavs fought back in the top of the 8th inning and scored a run after a wild pitch to draw to within just one run. 
 
In incredible fashion, the Mavs came out in the top of the 9th inning with its back against the wall and was able to score 5 runs in the inning. First, Kyzer Harrington was brought in as a pinch hitter and was able to record a single and JD Moreno advanced him to third after a single of his own. 
 
Ryan Black plated the tying run with an RBI single and set up Tyson Pointer for a single as well. Ryan Ellis plated Black to take control of the game 6-5 and in the very next at bat with two outs in play, Parker Airhart crushed a three-run homerun to jump out to a 9-5 lead. The Mavericks were able to control its lead in the bottom of the 9th to take a game from the Vaqueros. 
 
PITCHING PROFILE
Caylon Dygert got his 8th start of the season and pitched for 7 innings and allowed just 1 earned run off 7 hits. The freshman from Magnolia, Texas faced 30 batters and struck out 5 batters and allowed no walks for his 4th straight game.
 
Jacob Hasty came in for relief after the 7th inning and was credited with the win, his first of the season. The Keller, Texas native tossed for 2 innings and allowed no runs off 2 hits. 
 
 
ON DECK
The Mavericks will play in the series finale against the Vaqueros tomorrow, Apr. 7, at 12:00 p.m.
