NORMAN, OKLAHOMA – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team was defeated by the Oklahoma Sooners 11-9 in a midweek game at L. Dale Mitchell Park this Tuesday.
GAME FLOW
The Sooners got off to a very hot start by scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st and plated 5 more runs in the 3rd inning to jump out to a 9-0 lead.
The Mavs fought back and started to chip away by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 4th inning after
Ryan Ellis plated
Ryan Black with an RBI double and
Tyson Pointer was able to score off of a wild pitch.
Trailing 9-2, the Mavs plated 2 more runs in the top of the 7th inning by drawing walks with the bases loaded and trailed by just 5 runs. However, the Sooners answered back with 2 runs of its own in the bottom of the 7th to jump back out to a 7-run 11-4 lead.
After a scoreless 8th inning, the Mavs gave the Sooners a run for its money in the top of the 9th inning by scoring 5 runs to draw to within 2. First,
Ryan Ellis drew another walk with the bases loaded and plated
Jackson Hill, who came in as a pinch hitter, to score the first run of the inning. With the bases still loaded, and with two outs on the board,
Tyce Armstrong stepped up to the plate and crushed the first grand slam for the Mavericks this season to make the score 11-9. However, the Mavs magic ran out as the game concluded 11-9.
PITCHING PROFILE
The Mavericks utilized eight different pitchers on the day, with
Aaron Calhoun getting the start.
Cade McGlade pitched for 1.1 innings, the most of any Maverick throughout the game, and recorded a strikeout and allowed no hits and no walks in the 4 batters he faced.
Jacob Hasty pitched for 1.0 inning and was able to fan 2 Sooners on the night in the 5 he faced.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will host the Grand Canyon Antelopes in a conference series this weekend from Apr. 12-14.
