Mavs Fall To The Hornets In Series Finale

ARLINGTON, TEXAS – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team fell to the Sacramento State Hornets in a 7-5 ballgame in the series finale this Saturday, ultimately dropping the weekend series against the Hornets.
 
GAME FLOW
The Hornets took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning after a slew of hits for Sacramento State's offense.
 
Sacramento State increased its lead to 3-0 after a solo homerun in the top of the 5th inning, however, the Mavs quickly tied the game up at 3-3 in the bottom of the 5th inning and were able to take the lead by the bottom of the inning. 
 
First, after Tyce Armstrong battled for a walk and was advanced to second after Garrison Berkley got himself a single, JD Moreno came up to the plate and roped an RBI double to right field to score both runners. In the very next at bat, Ryan Black then plated Moreno with an RBI double of his own to tie the game at 3-3. The Mavs took a 4-3 lead after Ryan Ellis scored Black with a single through the infield. 
 
The Hornets tied the game in the top of the 8th at 4 runs a piece, however, the Mavericks were able to retake the lead at 5-4 after Ryan Black scored Jackson Hill, who came in as a pinch runner, with an RBI double to right-center field.
 
The Hornets offense came alive in the top of the 9th and scored 3 runs to take a 7-5 lead, which is where the game stayed until the final out.
 
PITCHING PROFILE
 
Getting his 7th start of the season, Caden Noah dealt for 6.0 innings and recorded 5 strikeouts throughout the 24 batters he faced. The Longview, Texas native allowed just 3 earned runs and gave up no walks in his start.
 
Cade McGlade, the native out of McKinney, Texas, pitched for 1.1 innings and allowed just one walk.
 
 
BOX SCORE NUGGETS
  • Ryan Ellis had a solid performance in the win slashing 3-for-4 while picking up a double and an RBI.
  • The Mavericks, throughout the three-game series, allowed just 6 walks throughout the three-game stretch. The Mavs currently rank 2nd in the NCAA in walks allowed per nine innings with a 2.91 mark.
 
ON DECK
The Mavs make a short trip to Dallas for the final midweek game of the season against DBU on Tuesday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m.
