ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (7-6, 2-0 WAC) exploded in the third quarter to cruise to an 81-60 win over Utah Tech (4-10, 0-1 WAC) on Thursday afternoon inside the College Park Center.
With the win, the Lady Mavs are now riding a three-game winning streak and remain a perfect 6-0 at home. The undefeated start at home is the first time in over 15 years that the Lady Mavs started off 6-0 at home with the closest streak coming back during the 2022-23 season when they started off 5-0 before their first home loss. This is the longest streak for the Lady Mavs inside of the College Park Center.
Koi Love led the charge for UTA with her fourth double double of the season, finishing with a game high 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Love was the only player from either team that cracked the 20-point mark, her fifth 20-point performance of the year, and did so on 10-of-15 shooting from the field. She finished four assists shy of another triple double, ending with six along with two steals in 31 minutes of action.
Nya Threatt tied her season high of 12 points on a 5-for-10 night from the floor, draining two three-point attempts. Threatt added three rebounds, three assists and a steal in 22 minutes of work.
Avery Brittingham added to her league leading double doubles, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds for her seventh double double of the year. Brittingham also had three assists and two steals in 28 minutes of play.
Miraya Perkins was the fourth and final Lady Mav to finish with double digit scoring efforts on the game, ending up with 11 points, her fourth double digit scoring performance of the year. Perkins was a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe to go along with three rebounds, one assist and one block in 17 minutes.
Aspen Thornton finished with eight points, two rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in 17 minutes.
Alexsyah Goudeau finished with seven points and an assist in 19 minutes while
Zoe Nelson finished with six points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in 18 minutes. The 11 boards tied her season high while the three blocks are a season high for Nelson.
The Lady Mavs and Trailblazers exchanged baskets in the first minute of the game followed by a 10-2 run by the Trailblazers, putting them up 12-4 before a quick timeout from UTA to settle down. The timeout worked to perfection as the Lady Mavs went on a 17-2 run to end the first quarter up 21-14.
UTA never trailed once they took the lead from the Trailblazers with under three minutes left in the first quarter, going up by as many as 23 in the fourth quarter and ending with a 21-point victory to move to 2-0 in conference play.
As a team, the Lady Mavs shot 42 percent from the floor while holding Utah Tech to shooting 34 percent from the field.
For the fifth game in a row, the Lady Mavs shot over 80 percent from the free throw line, finishing at 88 percent for the game. Through the first eight games of the season, the Lady Mavs never once shot over 80 percent from the charity stripe and now have done it in five straight games, four of those being victories.
UTA won the turnover battle, forcing Utah Tech into 17 turnovers compared to the Lady Mavs' 10. Those 17 turnovers led to 22 points for the Lady Mavs. The Lady Mavs bench outperformed the Trailblazers bench with UTA putting up 32 bench points compared to Utah Tech's four.
