Lady Mavs Drop Season Opener At Houston

HOUSTON, Texas – UT Arlington women's basketball opened up the 2025-26 campaign on Tuesday night, falling to the University of Houston by a final score of 76-59 inside the Fertitta Center.
 
The loss snaps the Lady Mavs four game winning streak against the Cougars and drops their overall record in the all-time series to 4-11.
 
The 54th season of Lady Mavs basketball saw true freshman Kira Reynolds put a stamp on her collegiate debut, notching her first career double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds to go along with one block in 28 minutes of action. Of Reynolds' rebounds, five were offensive to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for UTA, with the team grabbing 14 boards and turning them into 12 second chance points.
 
The Lady Mavs played some stingy defense on the perimeter, holding the Cougars to 1-of-15 from behind the arc, finishing with a three-point percentage of 7.1.
 
GAME FLOW
After playing to a 6-6 tie early in the game, UTA went on a 5-0 run with 5:43 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Kendal Robinson, to take an 11-6 lead. The Lady Mavs then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 17-13.
 
The Lady Mavs continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 37-26 halftime deficit.
 
Houston continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 42-30 advantage before UTA went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a three from Jadyn Atchison, to trim its deficit to 42-37 with 5:23 to go in the third. Houston countered and stretched its lead to 54-42 heading into the fourth. UTA played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 16 points in the paint.
 
The Lady Mavs could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 76-59. UTA took advantage of 10 Houston turnovers in the quarter, scoring nine points off of those takeaways.
 
GAME NOTES
» Kira Reynolds led all UTA scorers with 15 points to go along with a game-high 16 rebounds to pick up her first collegiate double-double.
» Jadyn Atchison finished with nine points and five rebounds in 20 minutes.
» Kendal Robinson chipped in with seven points on 3-of-4 from the field to go along with one rebound and two steals in 21 minutes.
» The bench provided a spark for the Lady Mavs, recording 33 points.
» UTA finished with a 41-32 rebounding advantage.
» The Lady Mavs defense forced 23 turnovers.
» UTA cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 14 offensive boards in the game.
» UTA's 35 turnovers are more than they had in any game last season (28 in WAC Championship). 
» Alexsyah Goudeau led the Lady Mavs with two blocks.
» Goudeau and Erin Sellers each finished with four steals to lead the charge for the Lady Mavs while Kali Haizlip added three.
 
NEXT UP
The Lady Mavs return to the College Park Center for their next three games, starting with Missouri State this Friday, Nov. 7, with tipoff slated for 6:30 p.m. CT.
