Trailblazers Sweep Mavericks in Last Regular Season Game

ST, GEORGE, UT -- The UT Arlington volleyball team fell to Utah Tech, as the Trailblazers posted a 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-18, 25-19) at home in Burns Arena. The loss dropped UT Arlington's record to 11-13 overall and 3-9 in WAC play.

Utah Tech came out strong, opening the first set with a four-point run. The Trailblazers kept the pressure on as UTA struggled with several errors, allowing Utah Tech to build a 9-3 lead. The Mavericks took a timeout at 10-3 and began to rally, pulling within five at 11-16 before Utah Tech called a timeout of its own. The Trailblazers quickly regained control, closing out the set 25-16 behind a series of powerful kills.

The Trailblazers opened set two with a 6-2 lead before UTA responded to close the gap to 8-4. The Mavericks then put together a five-point scoring run to cut the deficit to 12-9. UTA capitalized on several attack and service errors by Utah Tech, but the Trailblazers countered with steady offense, highlighted by kills from Jalie Tritt, Sophie Ocampo and Sophia Krichev. Utah Tech ultimately pulled ahead behind contributors from five different attackers, Casidy Fried, Nana Asiata, Mya Laufiso, Tessa Treanor and Emery Harrison, securing set two 25-18.

UTA took its first lead of the match early in set three, going up 6-4. The Mavericks extended that margin with a three-point scoring run fueled by kills from Ocampo, Evyn Snook and Hana Aiana to make it 9-5. After UTA added two more points for an 11-6 advantage, Utah Tech called a timeout. The Trailblazers responded with a run of their own, trimming the lead, 13-9, prompting a Mavericks timeout. A service ace from Tessa Treanor was initially ruled out, but after a Utah Tech challenge, the call was reversed, bringing the score to 14-10. UTA maintained its edge, 17-15 before UTA took a timeout. The Trailblazers clawed their way back up the stretch as they evened the score 18-18. Utah Tech ultimately surged with a six-point scoring run, pulling away to win the final set, 25-19 and securing the home sweep.
