ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's basketball (5-2) looks to remain unbeaten at home on Saturday, Nov. 29, as the Mavs are set to host in-state foe Stephen F. Austin (5-1) at 2 p.m. from the College Park Center. Tickets for the showdown between the Mavs and Lumberjacks are available
here. Fans can also watch live on
ESPN+, and listen live on the Varsity Network App with Will Conerly.
UTA is coming off of a 74-73 road win this past Saturday at Weber State to close the Junction City Jam. The Mavs were led in that game by senior guard
Marcell McCreary, who was the Mavericks' first 20-point scorer of the season (20) and hit a pair of clutch free throws in the final six seconds, and scored on a putback in the final minute to help lift UTA.
Stephen F. Austin enters play at 5-1 following a 63-60 road win at Pepperdine back on Nov. 21.
SFA is led by first-year head coach Matt Braeuer. He took the reins after serving as an assistant coach at Texas Tech under Red Raiders head coach Grant McCasland. He was instrumental in helping Tech to an Elite Eight appearance last season, where the Red Raiders eventually fell to national champion Florida. Prior to his move to Lubbock, Braeuer served under McCasland for five seasons at North Texas, where the Mean Green had a .710 winning percentage and picked up the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament win (over Purdue in 2021) and an NIT title in 2022-23. He has also spent time at the College of Charleston (two seasons), Sam Houston (three seasons), Maryland (as a video coordinator), Midland College (under current West Virginia head coach Ross Hodge) and WIchita State (as a graduate assistant).
The Lumberjacks have three players who are averaging double figures in scoring. They are paced by senior G Keon Thompson (18.5 ppg and 7.0 rpg), junior G Lateef Patrick (17.0 ppg), and sophomore G Narit Chotikavanic (14.2 ppg and 46.9% from three).
Saturday afternoon's meeting between UTA and SFA will be the 66th-ever between the two programs, with the Mavs holding a 34-31 advantage, including seven of the last 10 dating back to the 2010 season.
