Lady Mavs Return to Arlington for Final Non-Conference Home Game Against Texas Southern

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's basketball team returns to the College Park Center when they welcome the Tigers of Texas Southern on Wednesday, Dec. 17. Tipoff is slated for a 6:30 p.m. CT.
 
The Lady Mavs look to return to the win column, falling last time out at Rice. This is the lone home game for the Lady Mavs during the holiday month and their final home non-conference game. UTA holds a 2-1 record inside the CPC during the 2025-26 campaign.
 
Come celebrate the holiday season with the Lady Mavs for our Christmas at CPC game where we highly encourage everyone to wear their best ugly Christmas sweater. 
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 18th overall meeting between the two programs with the Lady Mavs trailing in the all-time series, 7-10. UTA picked up the victory over TSU in their last meeting, a 102-53 rout inside the College Park Center. The Lady Mavs are 1-4 in their last five and 5-5 in their last 10 games with the Tigers. UTA holds a 4-5 record in Arlington with a 1-1 record inside the CPC against TSU. The Lady Mavs average 58 points per game while the Tigers average 54 points per contest in the all-time series.
 
SCOUTING TEXAS SOUTHERN
The Tigers enter the contest with a 3-6 overall record and are in the midst of a five-game skid. TSU's lone three wins came at home while they hold an 0-4 record on the road and an 0-2 record on neutral floors. As a team, the Tigers average 65.7 points while opponents average 78.7 points per game. TSU shoots 38.9-percent from the floor, 25.6-percent from deep and 58.7-percent from the charity stripe. The Tigers average 40.6 rebounds per game. Daeja Holmes leads the Tigers with 12.2 points per game. Taliyah Logwood averages 9.8 points while leading with 7.0 rebounds per game.
 
DOWNTOWN LOCKDOWN
The Lady Mavs defend the three-point shot extremely well, holding opponents to 21.6-percent through 10 games on the season. This is the top mark in the conference and the best mark in the nation.
 
Through 10 games, opponents have shot under 30-percent from deep in eight of the Lady Mavs' 10 contests. Four out of the last five games, the Lady Mavs have held opponents to under 30-percent from deep with three of those contests seeing the Lady Mavs hold opponents under 20-percent from beyond the arc.
 
WE GOT SHOOTERS
The Lady Mavs are one of the better shooting three-point teams in the conference despite taking the least amount of attempts, averaging a league-low 12.0 attempts per game. Despite the amount, the Lady Mavs sit second in the league in three-point percentage, converting 33.3-percent of their attempts.
 
YOU SURE SHE'S A FRESHMAN?
True freshman Kira Reynolds has made her presence for the Lady Mavs not only known throughout the league, but putting the whole nation on notice. Through 10 games, she leads the Lady Mavs in points and rebounds, averaging a near double-double with 12.6 ppg and 8.7 rpg. Her four double-doubles on the year have her tied for the top mark in the league as well as for 28th nationally. 
 
When she gets to the free throw line, she's almost automatic as she's shooting 80-percent from the charity stripe, the third best mark in the conference.
 
Her 87 total rebounds are fourth most in the league and 84th best in the country. She's fourth in the conference with 8.7 rebounds per game which also has her 67th in the country. Her 7.2 defensive rebounds per contest is tops in the WAC and 25th in the NCAA.
 
On the defensive side of the ball, she's a menace in blocking shots. Her 31 total blocks is the second best mark in the WAC and is the sixth best mark in the NCAA. Her average of 3.10 blocks per game is the best mark in the league while it has her ranked fourth in the nation.
 
NO LIMIT VETERAN
Senior point guard Nya Threatt is coming into her newfound role as the leader of the team as the most experienced player on the team with 67 starts under her belt. She is coming off a career night where she dropped a new career best 21 points in front of a homecoming crowd inside the CPC. She currently sits second on the Lady Mavs averaging 9.8 points per game to go along with a team-high 30 assists and 13 steals in nine games for the point guard.
 
FREE99
Through 10 games on the season, the Lady Mavs are shooting 71.6-percent (141-of-197) from the free throw line while opponents are shooting 69.7-percent (170-of-244) from the charity stripe. 
 
The Lady Mavs sit fourth in the league in free throw attempts per contest with 19.70. They sit third in the conference in free throw percentage at 71.6-percent while coming in at fourth in the WAC and 74th in the NCAA in free throws made with 14.10 per contest.
 
BENCH MOB
The Lady Mavs boast one of the best benches in the WAC, with the bench averaging an impressive 22.6 points per game which is the third best mark in the conference.
 
STILL THROWING A BLOCK PARTY
The Lady Mavs were one of the better shot blocking teams in the WAC last season and that is still setting up to be the trend this season as UTA averages a shade over five blocks per game, coming in at 5.1 per contest which is the second best mark in the WAC and the 26th best mark nationally.
 
LONG AND ATHLETIC
The Lady Mavs give teams fits down in the paint with their length. Opposing teams have trouble blocking the Lady Mavs' shots. Through 10 games, opponents have managed 24 total blocks while the Lady Mavs have blocked 51 shots on the season as a team. A total of eight of the 12 players on the roster have recorded a block on the season.
 
20 PIECE, NO BBQ SAUCE
Three of the Lady Mavs five wins this season have come way by the Lady Mavs defeating opponents by 20 or more points.
 
TWICE AS NICE
Kira Reynolds has been named the Western Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week two times on the season while she also has one WAC Player of the Week honor under her belt on the year.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
The Lady Mavs are an impressive 45-19 at home in Shereka Wright's tenure at the College Park Center, where they played three of their first four games this season and have 13 overall. They went 2-1 over the recent three game homestand. Coach Wright has never had a losing record at home and went an astounding 12-1 last season which is the best winning percentage (.923) for the Lady Mavs at home since moving into the CPC back in 2012.
 
The Lady Mavs claimed their 100th victory inside the friendly confines of the CPC last season on Jan. 20, 2024 with a victory over Abilene Christian. UTA sports a 117-70 overall record inside the CPC after picking up their second home victory of the 2025-26 season against Tennessee State. The Lady Mavs seem to be at their best when playing in front of the home fans.
 
JOIN IN ON THE FUN
The last game in the Hawaii North Shore Showcase against VCU, everyone who touched the floor for the Lady Mavs recorded at least one point and one rebound for the first time this season.
 
ARLINGTON SKYLINE
With half of the 12 player roster averaging 6'0 or better, this is one of the tallest teams under coach Wright's tutelage.
 
NEXT UP
The Lady Mavs will wrap up non-conference play with a stern test at No. 5 LSU in Baton Rouge on Sunday, Dec. 21. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m. CT inside the Maravich Center.
