BATON ROUGE, La. - The UT Arlington softball team suffered back-to-back losses as the Mavs fell to nationally ranked Virginia Tech and LSU on Friday, Feb. 14 from Tiger Park.
UTA vs. #18 Virginia Tech
Sophomore Emma Mazzarone and junior Cassie Grizzard combined to throw a shutout on Friday as the No. 17 Virginia Tech Hokies blanked UTAÂ 8-0.
Freshman Madi McDonnell (0-1) started and took the loss in the circle for UT Arlington (4-3).
In the batter's box, the Mavericks were paced by junior Kailee Bautista, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UT Arlington managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The Mavericks last got a runner on third in the second, when sophomore Mia McNulty made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
GAME NOTES

The Mavs were not able to notch a run against LSU pitcher junior Tatum Clopton on Friday and were shut out 6-0 by the No. 7 Tigers.
Senior Jessica Adams (1-1) started and took the loss in the circle for UT Arlington (4-4).
Offensively, the Mavericks were led by sophomore Mia McNulty, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a walk.
