ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (0-3) fell 4-3 in a close match to in-state rival UTSA at the UTA Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.
 
The doubles point went down to the wire, but the Roadrunners managed to earn two out of three wins to go up 1-0 heading into singles play.
 
The pairing of Meethre Barot and Pedro Sasso picked up the 6-4 win on Court 2. The two defeated Oskar Grzegorzewski and Ben Chetewy Ungar to even up the doubles score before the Mavs fell on Court 1 to give the doubles point to the Roadrunners.
 
The Mavs picked up the first two wins in singles play to go up 2-1. Mattia Ricci defeated Enzo Vargas 6-4, 6-2 on Court 4 followed by Daniel Pérez-Caraballo defeating Jakub Wlodarczyk 6-2, 6-4 on Court 6 to put the Mavs up.
 
The Roadrunners evened the score back to two games apiece thanks to Ben Chetewy Ungar defeating Yazid Lahjomri 6-0, 6-4 on Court 5.
 
UTA and UTSA would trade points on Courts 2 and 3 in two three set matches to make it 3-3 with Court 1 being the deciding factor. Andres Medus fell to Danijal Muminovic 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 on Court 2 while Sasso defeated Oskar Grzegorzewski 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 on Court 3 soon after the conclusion on Court 2.
 
In a three-set thriller on Court 1, UTSA's Tiago Torres defeated Barot 7-6, 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the match for the Roadrunners.
 
The Mavs will be back in action this upcoming Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8, when they travel to Lafayette, La. to compete in the Cajun Winter Classic hosted by Louisiana – Lafayette at the Cajun Courts.
