MBB: Mavs Look to Bounce Back Saturday at Seattle U

SEATTLE – UT Arlington men's basketball (11-12, 4-5 WAC) UTA remains on the road to take on Seattle U (9-13, 4-4 WAC) on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Redhawk Center in Seattle. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and on the radio on the Varsity app, as well as 102.5 FM and KTNO 620 AM with the Voice of the Mavs, Josh Sours. Seattle U ended a three-game skid with a dominant performance in a 91-54 win over Tarleton State at home on Thursday night.

The Mavericks saw their four-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday night in Orem, Utah, falling to Utah Valley 94-73. Sophomore guard Kade Douglas scored a career-high-tying 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting (4-for-6 from deep) to go along with five boards in his third start of the season. Forward/center Lance Ware had his fifth double-double in his past six games, and eighth of the season, finishing with 10 points, 14 rebounds and also added a block.

UTA's next opponent, Seattle U, is off to an 9-13 start, and is 4-4 in WAC play, following their 37-point win at home over Tarleton State on Thursday night.

The Redhawks are led by fourth-year head coach Chris Victor, who helped lead Seattle to the CBI title last season. Seattle has won 20-plus games in three straight seasons, the first time in program history since 1957-59. Prior to his time as head coach, Victor spent four seasons as Associate Head Coach, and before that two seasons as an assistant at Eastern Washington. Victor was also the head coach at Citrus College for five seasons, leading the Owls to a pair of CCCAA Final Fours (2010-11 and 2011-12).

Seattle U is led by forward Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe, who is averaging a team-high 15.2 ppg and 10.5 rpg. Guards John Christofilis (11.6 ppg) and Paris Dawson (10.5 ppg and 3.3 rpg) are also key fixtures for the Redhawks. The Mavericks held Moncrieffe to nine points on 3-of-12 shooting, while also holding Christofilis to seven points on 3-for-11 shooting in the UTA win on Jan. 23 in Arlington. Dawson had 11 points, three rebounds and three assists in a losing effort.

Saturday's meeting between UTA and Seattle U will be the eighth all-time, with UTA having won each of the past three meetings.
