In her first season as a Lady Mavs, Thornton made an impact coming off the bench and was recognized by the league's coaches as Co-Sixth Player of the Year alongside Utah Valley's Kylee Mabry. Thornton appeared in all 16 WAC games where she came alive for the Lady Mavs, averaging 7.8 points, 2.0 assists and 1.6 rebounds per contest. Her Division I career best night came on the road against the league's top team in Grand Canyon who were riding a then 21-game win streak when she dropped 29 points on 10-of-17 from the field. In her first game against her former school in Abilene Christian, Thornton dished out a career high eight assists.

With the four selections this season, that makes eight total in the Lady Mavs' four-year history in the WAC.
Gia Adams (First Team) and
Avery Brittingham (Second Team) were the Lady Mavs two selections last season while Starr Jacobs (WAC Player of the Year, First Team & All-Defensive Team) and Kayla White (Second Team & All-Newcomer Team). During the Lady Mavs first stint in the WAC back in 2012-13, UTA did not have anyone named to the All-WAC teams. Brittingham is the lone repeat honoree for the Lady Mavs in their WAC tenure.
