ARLINGTON, Texas -- The UT Arlington Mavericks took a 2-1 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 5-3 win over the UTSA Roadrunners on Tuesday.
Senior Jessica Adams (4-2) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for UT Arlington (13-9). The right-hander went 5.1 innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Mavericks first put runs on the board in the first inning. Junior Dee McClarity drove in two runs for UTA with a single, that scored sophomore Kaitlyn Sailor and sophomore Mia McNulty.
The Roadrunners failed to push any runs across before the Mavericks offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Mavs scored twice on McNulty's two-run homer, which brought the score to 4-1 in favor of the Mavericks.
UTA held UTSA without a run before building their lead to 5-1 in the sixth inning. The Mavericks scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Sailor. UTSA put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but UTA still held on for the 5-3 win.
GAME NOTES
» UT Arlington's highest scoring inning was the second, when it pushed two runs across.
» UT Arlington took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
» UT Arlington pitchers limited UTSA to just 1-for-8 (.125) with runners in scoring position.
» UT Arlington pitchers faced 32 UTSA hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and five fly balls while striking out four.
» The Mavericks drew seven walks from UTSA pitching.
» McNulty led the Mavericks at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
» UTSA was led offensively by senior Jaylen Prichard, who went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
» Freshman Reagan Stoudt led the Roadrunners pitching staff, throwing two scoreless innings.

The Mavs will shift focus to their second WAC series in Stephenville where UTA will face Tarleton on Friday, Mar, 14 at 6:30 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 15 beginning at 1 p.m.
