Mavs Fall In Tough Battle At Wichita State

WICHITA, Kan. – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (8-9) battled against a tough Wichita State (9-9) team but ultimately fell 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex in Wichita, Kansas.
 
The Mavericks picked up the doubles point behind solid play on Court 2 and an exciting finish on Court 3. UTA managed to pick up two victories in singles play on Courts 2 and 6.
 
With the loss, the Mavs end the month of March with a 2-4 record while dropping their third match of their last four. UTA falls to 8-16 against the Shockers in the all-time series. 
 
Wichita State is winners of four of their last five and end the month of March with an even 4-4 record.
 
The Mavs picked up the doubles point thanks to a dominate 6-2 win on Court 2 behind the duo of Federico Garbero and Daniel Pérez-Caraballo. The team of Andres Medus and Mattia Ricci secured the point to put the Mavs up 1-0 thanks to an exhilarating match thank UTA won in a tiebreaker 8-6 over the Shockers.
 
Medus picked up one of the two UTA singles points, moving his singles record to an impressive 11-5, holding steady at 9-3 on Court 2. Medus defeated Alejandro Jacome in an exciting three set match 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.
 
The Shockers picked up singles victories on Courts 5, 1, 4, and 3 to earn the victory. The two teams played out the match which saw the Mavs pick up the final two singles points.
 
Yazid Lahjomri defeated Zaid Al Mashni 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in three sets to end the match 4-3 in favor of the Shockers.
 
UTA will be back in action next Wednesday, April 2, when they host Prairie View A&M followed by Abilene Chistian on Thursday, April 3, from the UTA Tennis Center. Both matches are slated to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
